Introduction to Fashion Merchandising
Fashion merchandising is a very popular and lucrative career choice. Most commonly, a fashion merchandiser works in a store and decides which garments are displayed, how, and in which area of the store. Large department stores generally have a handful of fashion merchandisers—each with their own team of people to help carry out visual changes.
“Merchandising” a store involves either creating or following a plan, preparing merchandise for display, coordinating with other members of the store's team, and maintaining the store's appearance. In this book, we'll cover all of the above. We'll also explore how specific aspects of fashion merchandising work together to create effective visual persuasion and a powerful store appearance.
