The first step in successfully styling your client is meeting for a consultation. The consultation process is intended to help you get to know your client and to let your client get to know you. Since you'll be helping your client with a very personal aspect of his or her life—the clothes your client wears each and every day—this step is incredibly important. You'll want to leave the consultation with a good understanding of your client, and what she or he is really looking for.
In this book, we'll go over the type of questions to ask your clients and the questions you really need answers to. We'll teach you about the many touchy subjects you should avoid, which questions you should keep to yourself, and how to best use active listening to get to know your clients and make them feel comfortable. Once again, we'll touch on the importance of nonverbal communications and physical cues and wrap it all up to show you what it really means to you as a fashion stylist starting your career.
